    Tile Repair in Cardiff

Keep your tiling. Lose the damage.

A single damaged tile is one of the most frustrating problems in a Cardiff home. Conventional replacement means breaking out the damaged tile, almost always cracking the ones around it, hunting for a match that has usually been discontinued, and re-grouting a whole wall or floor to hide the join. What began as a chip the size of a five-pence piece turns into a quote for a full re-tile.

Specialist tile repair takes the opposite approach. We rebuild the damaged area of the original tile in place using two-part resins, then match the colour, pattern and glaze sheen to the tiles surrounding it. Nothing is removed, nothing is replaced, and the room stays intact. From normal viewing distance the repair simply disappears — and you keep the tiling you chose in the first place.

We are based in Newport, roughly twenty minutes from Cardiff, and cover the whole city: Roath, Cathays, Canton, Pontcanna, Llandaff, Whitchurch, Llanishen, Rhiwbina, Radyr, Grangetown, Splott, Cardiff Bay, Penarth and the surrounding villages. That proximity is the reason most Cardiff enquiries get an appointment within a day or two rather than a fortnight.

    What we repair

Cracked, chipped and impact-damaged ceramic, porcelain and natural stone tiles on walls and floors, plus deep staining, failed previous repairs and holes left by removed fittings.

    Who it's for

Cardiff homeowners, landlords and letting agents, builders and bathroom fitters who have damaged a tile mid-project, and insurance customers dealing with accidental damage.

    When it's needed

After dropped objects, drilling in the wrong place, dragged appliances, settlement cracks, or when the original tile range is discontinued and a match is impossible.

    Why a specialist

Tilers replace; we repair. Most tile ranges are discontinued within two or three years, and even 'identical' tiles vary between batches — which is why in-situ repair is often the only route to a uniform finish.

    Local Knowledge

Cardiff tiling, and what usually goes wrong with it.

Cardiff's housing stock is unusually varied for a city its size, and the tile problems we are called to reflect that. The Victorian and Edwardian terraces of Roath, Canton and Grangetown often have original or early-replacement floor tiles in hallways — beautiful, entirely irreplaceable, and prone to cracking as the floors beneath them move. In those properties, repair is not the cheaper option, it is the only option that preserves the original feature.

The inter-war semis of Whitchurch, Rhiwbina and Llanishen tend to have bathrooms refitted at some point in the last twenty years, which means large-format ceramic wall tiles from ranges that no longer exist. A single chip near the bath or a drill hole in the wrong place puts homeowners in exactly the situation specialist repair was designed for.

Newer apartments around Cardiff Bay and the city centre typically use polished porcelain, which chips cleanly and shows damage brightly against the glaze. Porcelain also cannot be repaired with the same materials as ceramic, so a system built for a glazed ceramic wall tile will fail on a bay-front floor. We carry both, plus stone-effect blending compounds for the marble, travertine and slate found in higher-end refits across Pontcanna and Llandaff.

One local factor cuts across all of it: Cardiff and the wider South Wales supply run hard. Limescale builds fast around showers and basins, works into hairline cracks and grout joints, and accelerates the failure of damage that would otherwise have stayed cosmetic for years. A crack in a Cardiff shower wall is a shorter-fuse problem than the same crack elsewhere — which is why we treat wet-area repairs as urgent and seal them properly rather than simply filling them.

    Our Process

How a Cardiff tile repair runs.

    01

    Photo quote

Send a couple of photos and we quote within 24 hours — no charge, no site visit needed for most jobs.

    02

    Inspect & prep

On the day we assess tile material, glaze and sheen, clean the damage and remove any loose material.

    03

    Rebuild

Two-part resin is built up in layers to restore the original tile profile, flush with the surface.

    04

    Colour match

Pigments are mixed against the neighbouring tile, then the glaze sheen is matched over the top.

    05

    Seal & hand back

Wet areas are sealed, the area is cleaned down and we confirm when it can be used again.

    Why Cardiff customers choose repair

    Concrete benefits, not vague promises.

    Around 70% cheaper

Repair typically costs a fraction of re-tiling once labour, materials, waste and making good are counted.

    No rip-out, no dust

Surrounding tiles, grout and the rest of the room stay exactly as they are.

    Discontinued tiles rescued

Where a match no longer exists, in-situ rebuild is usually the only realistic route.

Back in use the same day

Most Cardiff repairs take one to three hours including curing for wet areas.

    Stops damage spreading

Sealing a crack keeps water out of the substrate and stops joints failing around it.

    Less waste to landfill

Repairing a tile keeps a serviceable surface out of a skip — the greener option by a distance.

    In Detail

Tile repairs Cardiff: materials, damage types and where it applies.

Every tile repair is a materials problem before it is a cosmetic one. Glaze hardness, porosity, sheen and pattern all change which resin, pigment system and topcoat will hold. Here is what we work with and what we are most often called out to across Cardiff.

    Tile types we repair

    • Glazed and unglazed ceramic wall and floor tiles
    • Polished and matt porcelain, including large format
    • Natural stone — marble, travertine, slate and limestone
    • Quarry and Victorian encaustic hallway tiles
    • Mosaic and small-format shower tiling

    Damage we fix

    • Chips from dropped items and trade damage
    • Hairline and structural cracks
    • Drill holes from removed fittings and rails
    • Deep staining and glaze burn
    • Failed DIY grout or filler repairs

    Where it applies

    • Bathrooms, en-suites and shower enclosures
    • Kitchen splashbacks and floors
    • Hallways, porches and conservatories
    • Rental properties between tenancies
    • New builds and refits damaged before handover

    Commercial work

    • Hotel and guest-house bathrooms
    • Restaurant, café and bar washrooms
    • Gym and leisure changing areas
    • Student accommodation blocks
    • Landlord and letting agent portfolios

    Residential vs commercial in Cardiff

Domestic repairs are scheduled around the household and finished in a single visit. Commercial work across Cardiff's hotels, gyms and hospitality venues is usually done outside trading hours so rooms and washrooms can go back into service the next morning. Either way you get an itemised written quote first, and before-and-after photographs afterwards for your records.
